‘I Can Touch The Stars’ from Maui resident Astro Raph is a four track EP of chilled, lucid and lush Trip Hop with evident House, Breaks and Drum n Bass influences. ‘I Can Touch The Stars’ is the first track around 130BPM with a subtle ramp and gentle touches of a low-end bass line that builds and drops into funky drums and exquisite high synth waves. ‘Ever More Alive’ begins on a pensive mood with warm key board, and affected round low bass lines into unmistakable funky breaks and plucked strings, the overall feel IDM and relaxed Breakbeat. ‘Ocean Of Pain’ is the material that fills an emotional void, his use of filtered percussions, seagull samples and silky bass and upbeat drums claims artistry, the sounds resonant and fulfilling. Ending is ‘Golden Spindle’ with playful drum patterns, raindrop sounding bass notes and dreamy soft synths cascading into another layer of bongo drums and poignant buoyant strings and keyboard. Like a gentle refreshing rain or a wave of bright shooting stars this EP washes kindly over for a pleasing short foray of sound.
