about

Historically Casablanca has been known as a global melting pot; a place where cultures mingle and fuse. This quality is evident in the dazzling music of Casablanca-based beat-maker and guitarist saib., who has revealed his debut long-player, the appropriately titled Around The World album for Cold Busted. These tunes showcase saib.’s worldly vibe, tied together with his intricate guitar playing which deftly keeps up with all the styles represented on the album. Hip hop beats form the backbone as saib.’s musical palette skips from jazz flavors to lounge experiments to Asian textures … and sometimes within a single track. Around The World is indeed a non-stop flight, touching down on all of saib.’s influences and predilections, creating a memorable album along the way.

Quincy Jointz (Timewarp Music Radio Show / Radio 42.com / netmusique.com / Ibiza Global Radio): nice

Brandon (Properly Chilled): No wrong, all right. Well done.

Simon Ward (Dr Rubberfunk) (Jalapeno Records / Funkydown): Very groovy - always a fan of some tasteful guitar work, and steady production to match. Only criticism would be (and I mean it constructively!) that there are a few too many 'Ultimate Breaks & Beats' type drum loops - I love all those classic breaks, but it's nice to hear them used a little differently every now and then. Casablanca Funk & In The Mountains stand out for me as they're not relying on the drum break to carry the track. But my familiarity with the loops won't be what everyone hears of course, and overall I'm enjoying a solid release :) Cheers! Simon R'Funk

(Thee) Mike B / Brillstein (Play It Down / Fool's Gold): DOPE!

Basement Freaks (Jalapeno Records): I like Funk dope beats

DJ Wash (Funk the System / Butter Music): some nice beats in here!

Andy Riley (Inland Knights) (Toka Project / Drop Music): tight beats as ever

Mojo Rising (Cold Busted / Journees Music / F.A.M.I.L.Y.): Don't Let Me Be Lonely, really fun. Casablanca Funk and Yu Garden also strong cuts.

DJ Nova (Rodon FM 95 / Nova Planet Radio Show): Globalized and multistyled scenario, not something new on the beatz, the old story but really fresh and magnificent complex of inspirations thru the world. It is the Casablanca world spirit. Radio's and DJ's will not resist on jazzy warm up ''Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight'' and some people like me on ''Tales Of Africa'' even it sounds like a re:issue from early 90's. Lots to love here but the winner seems to be the ''In The Mountains'' naturalism and why not Balearism.

Green Street (Cold Busted / Nocturnal Recordings / Str8 Busted Podcast): Most def. will be rocking these tunes out!

Hippie Torrales (Cyberjamz Radio / What Is Hip): Hot hort hot!

Gayle Moore (MadameFLY) (mmRadio / Beatmixing.com / BeatConcious.org): Shanghai Nights - Like a fountain of music, this one sparkles and flows Tales of Africa seems rooted in a specific place, music for a restaurant or small bar, delight for the ear In the Mountains - more music for that intimate neighborhood space, for people who spend time listening as well as talking Late Night Call has a sultry funk edge to it and guitar sophistication by the ton
